A few things to keep in mind as the effort to deal with the Coronavirus continues in the US, China and throughout the world:
- Be compassionate – Students native to the areas most impacted may be feeling great concern and anxiety. Please be patient and considerate when confronted with their concerns.
- Be respectful and culturally sensitive – Media reporting can paint a picture that is not always fair for an entire culture of people in a large population when things like this happen. Please try to be sensitive and avoid generalizations when talking with friends, family, staff, students and others you speak with regularly. Students did not cause this virus to happen, and likely are already worried about people in their home country.
- Monitor the situation - The ways in which people understand and communicate the issues and challenges around the Coronavirus likely will change as this situation evolves. Please refer to the following resources for accurate up to date information:
We are thankful that our students have wonderful people they can rely on in their schools, host families and communities as this health emergency plays out in their home country and across the world.
